Hardcover. Condition: Good. Large hardcover. Black cloth over boards with minimal gold stamping on front cover and spine. Crease down the center of the spine. Front board has a few small white scuff marks. Bumping to corners. Towards the foot of the book, in both joints, there is a small hole in the cloth. -- it looks as though the cloth has since been treated in this area to strengthen it. Pages are free of marks. This blank verse translation by Henry Francis Cary, which is what he's best known for, is complete with helpful annotations. Dore's illustrations are plentiful. Seller: Black and Read Books, Music & Games, Arvada, CO, U.S.A.
Hardcover. Condition: Poor. Late 19th Century 'New Edition'. A large 4to hardcover in NO dust jacket that is simply a reference copy because of significant binding issues. More particularly, the text block is loose in the covers, there are several loose pages, often with additional edge damage, and even the pages that are not loose are, to varying degrees, shaken. Among the loose pages with the most significant damage are the frontispiece and the title page (which has a seven inch lateral tear in additional to significant edge tears, chips and creases. Faint staining and hints of moisture damage in the top 1/4 inch of the top margin of several of the latter pages. There is also a gift inscription dated May 31, 1895 on the loose ffep, and a couple of small marks on the ffep and title page. Still, aside from a missing rfep, the contents (162 pp. plus numerous b&w illustrations with the designs of M. Gustave Dore) appear free of marks, and most importantly, complete. Dulled gilt on the pages fore and top edges with a black ink stain on a portion of the fore edge. Gold cloth with gilt and black decoration on the spine and upper board. These covers are rubbed, and have instances of soiling/staining, have well-rubbed corners, and wear including erosion in the spine head and tail. **Extra charges may be requested to cover postage costs on an order requesting expedited and/or international shipping because of the size and weight of this book. Bookseller Inventory # u1491.
