Celebrate all year long--and make every day special with these original seasonally arranged ideas for decorating, preparing foods and drinks, and crafting. Enjoy summer's warmth with a beautifully arranged, romantic garden party. For autumn, carve uncommon jack-o'-lanterns out of speckled squash, rather than ordinary pumpkins. The best part of winter for many is Christmas, and among the standout decorations are gilded walnuts, calico dolls, and teddy bears. From flower arrangements to a Valentine wreath, every project is inspirational!

From Booklist:
There are more than a few events marking each season of the year, as journalist Amos demonstrates. In fact, she often strays far from many of the silly contemporary holidays (Bosses' Day and Secretaries' Day, for example) to concentrate on natural or traditional celebrations, such as Halloween, harvest suppers, Christmas, and New Year's. Each of the four chapters floats a few ideas in narrative and in photographs, then summarizes the concepts in four pages called "Practicalities." The ethereal summer wedding, for instance, becomes grounded in some realities by recommendations for party favors, drinks for toasts (cassis with white wine), and hanging votives for nighttime affairs. The elegant color photographs carry much of the responsibilities for turning ideas into real-time events; it's far easier to visualize home crafts than to read and copy. Barbara Jacobs
