Mental illness, drug addiction, violence, and the horrors of war, these are just some of our monsters. Regardless of whether monsters hearken from myth and legend or are fantastical creatures with beastly traits, it is always the monster who walks among us that become the stuff of nightmares. This anthology explores monsters, their roles in our lives, and ours in theirs.
Monsters is a collection of short stories and poetry, written, edited, and complied by the Creative Writing Club at Spokane Falls Community College, Pullman Center. The poetry, fiction, and creative non-fiction, created by the 16 participating authors is disquieting, divergent, and dark. Enter their worlds. Linger over their stories. Let their prose delight, unsettle, and entertain.

From the Author:
In the process of publishing this anthology, students from the SFCC Pullman Campus Creative Writing Club endured the intimidation tactics of school administration officials, including: funding/spending delays, efforts to censor the book, and sabotage attempts.

The Dean of Student Services, Cynthia Vigil even contacted the Attorney General's office for the State of Washington, to learn what steps she could legally take to prevent publication and censor the book.  It is reported that she was told she could not censor the anthology. Attempts to do so violate the students' First Amendment rights.  Despite that warning, Ms. Vigil continued to pressure students and faculty alike. Unfortunately, this is not the first time faculty and staff have attempted to censor student work.  (See: "Concern, condemnation after Spokane Falls student newspaper reports on sex scandal." Seattle Times.  April 5, 2018.)

As of August 9, 2019, the students report that Cynthia Vigil and the Director of Student Funded Programs, Heather McKenzie, still have not provided the club with a budget for next year.  This means the club must rely entirely on book sales to pay for next year's publication, conference attendance, and other club actives.  Your anthology purchase directly supports those students who fought so hard for publication in the face of those who intended to infringe on their first amendment rights and ensures the club will be able to continue publishing in the future.
