Skye's the Limit - Softcover

Grade 4-6-In this second book about Skye O'Shea, the 12-year-old spends three weeks at a bicycle camp in Vancouver. Readers will relate to her homesickness and anxiety when her physical and emotional strengths are tested. Through rain, exhaustion, and the meanness of one manipulative camper, Skye keeps on pedaling. She is encouraged by most of the kids and counselors at camp, including Pearl, who stays positive even though she has a prosthetic leg, and is attracted to gentle, quiet Mason. As she cycles, kayaks, and laughs, she learns to do something about her conflicts. Although the writing is fluffy and full of slang, there is wisdom interspersed throughout the pages. The short chapters and the protagonist's likable personality will appeal to reluctant readers.
