When it comes to investing, the conventional wisdom is to buy-and-hold a balanced portfolio of stocks and bonds. However, following the major bear markets that resulted from the popping of the tech and housing bubbles, many investors either questioned the validity of this advice or abandoned the discipline required to follow this strategy. As a result, many surrendered to the emotions of the market, sold at the wrong time, and underperformed. These stock market corrections have left many wondering if there is anything else they can do. Are there other viable options available?
Topics include, but not limited to:
  • Why the conventional wisdom of buying and holding a balanced portfolio is potentially dangerous.
  • Why people are inherently poor investors and why we need systems.
  • Effects of national debt, deficits, and quantitative easing that almost no one is talking about.
  • How the typical 401k and 529 plan offers poor investment choices.
  • Why Target-Date Retirement Funds are not ideal investments for the future.
  • How college endowments invest their money and why you should too.
  • Why the classic balanced portfolio of two asset classes, stocks and bonds, is obsolete and why you need seven to twelve asset classes instead.
  • Specific mutual funds and self-managed strategies that may help you avoid the next 2008-type bear market.
