Sidney N. Riggs (1892-1975) was a graduate of Syracuse University with a doctor's degree from New York University. He taught for 35 years in the schools of New Jersey, retiring to Martha's Vineyard, where he lived and wrote until his death. He had a lively interest in Indians for most of his life. In 1928 he was adopted by the Hopi Indians, who gave him the name "Quaquatka," meaning "Eagle's Nest."
