About the Author:
Anne Greenfield was born and raised in Connecticut and graduated from Albertus Magnus College with a degree in Classical Languages and an undeclared major in Philosophy and Theology. Her Masters’ degree in Pastoral Theology is from Notre Dame de Namur University in California. She also attended John Carroll University, San Jose State, and The Franciscan School of Theology at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley. Ms. Greenfield taught high school for sixteen years while pursuing studies in English, Theology, History and Curriculum Design. She served as Dean of Studies at Sacred Heart Preparatory in Atherton for several years before going full-time into ministry. She began her time as Chaplain for the Catholic Community at Stanford in 1983 after the completion of her graduate degree. In those twenty years, she has preached, directed retreats, led prayer groups and provided counseling and spiritual direction to undergraduate and graduate students. Her work with Jesuits for eight years trained her in Ignatian Spirituality, and she has directed several Ignation retreats, including a five-day retreat at Boston College. In addition, she has provided private and group direction in the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius. Graduate courses at the Franciscan School of Theology at the Graduate School of Theology at Berkeley provided insight and a hands-on experience of Franciscan Spirituality. Her undergraduate studies in a Dominican college were a foundational introduction to Thomistic Spirituality, and for the last eight years she has worked with Dominicans who currently are charged with the pastoral care of the Catholic Chaplaincy at Stanford.

A long-standing interest in spirituality and the responsibility for the RCIA program in which students enter the Roman Catholic Church, have led to an exploration of the various paths people take on their spiritual journeys through life. While she still believes that the most perfect form of prayer is the Eucharist, she sees a need for people to be fed spiritually in a variety of ways-- through action and contemplation, through public and private prayer, through service to others, and through fellowship/prayer groups. In her work she has noticed that many have a desire to enrich their lives through prayer but are hampered by a lack of information as to how to go about it. Hence, this book.
