Mastering Rook Endings focuses on the most useful kinds of Rook endings frequently seen in actual tournament play. It contains practical examples rather than positions of purely "theoretical" interest.

By studying these sharply focused examples, any chess student can learn to apply a master’s thought process to Rook endings in his own games. The 120 core positions in this book were selected to emphasize quality rather than quantity. Many of the examples in Mastering Rook Endings will benefit seasoned tournament veterans as well as less advanced students.

If you can think like a chess master, you can play like a chess master. Mastering Rook Endings teaches you how to do it!

About the Author:

Mark Ishee earned USCF’s National Master title in 1987. He has written many articles for national chess magazines including Chess Life, and is the author of two other chess books (Evans Gambit Games and The Tarrasch Formula, co-authored with GM Sam Palatnik). His numerous tournament victories in correspondence and over-the-board play include winning the Tennessee state championship four times. In addition to his success as a tournament player, he also holds lifetime certification from the USCF as a National Tournament Director and has directed events ranging from local club events to the U.S. Open Championship.

Despite an impressive list of chess accomplishments in these areas, Ishee identifies his work as a teacher as the most significant. He has been teaching chess in school programs and in private lessons for over twenty years, and his chess students have won top honors in local, state and national championships. Ishee currently teaches high school English, and remains active in correspondence chess in his spare time.
