Bat Masterson (Outlaws and Lawmen of the Wild West)

Grade 4-6-- Neither fictionalizing nor embellishing their subjects, Green and Sanford have created two readable biographies about men well known for their folk-hero status during the Wild West era. Similar in format and tone, each book briefly describes the lives of the lawmen and their families. The violence of the times is handled realistically. Both men are portrayed as energetic, hearty individuals who led eventful and varied lives. Black-and-white photographs, reproductions, and sketches enhance the texts and add to the flavor of the setting and the period.
