From Booklist:
This title in the Coping series offers helpful support and useful information on the physical and emotional impact of allergies. Common sinus, food, insect, and skin allergies are explained, as is asthma. Readers learn about why and how allergic reactions occur and treatment options, and take away sensible advice for lessening the chances of attacks. The book distinguishes between allergies, intolerances, and just plain dislikes, and also debunks common myths. Schwartz's prose is clear and lively, and his text is well organized, though diagrams might have been helpful in some instances. Occasional cutesy humor and analogies lighten up the text-only format but are sometimes distracting or disconcerting (such as comparing the embarrassments associated with allergies to concerns about a large pimple on the nose). Abundant statistics, unattributed, occasionally contradict each other, as well. But for teen sufferers and their parents, this provides a good overview. A glossary, and lists of organizations and readings are appended. Shelle Rosenfeld
