Here are 16,000 quotes from 2,600 women—most of them found in no other collection. With dynamic and witty words by sources ranging from Bella Abzug to Ann Zwinger on over 1,400 topics, this is an indispensable reference and browser's delight.
"An important counterpoint to general collections of quotations, which, unfortunately, still don't offer equitable coverage of women's words."

From School Library Journal:
YA-- Correcting the inadequate inclusion of female quotations in traditional resources, Maggio has compiled 5700 quotes by women. Arranged by subject, the book extends the coverage in Bartlett's Familiar Quotations , (Little, 1980) or Stevenson's Home Book of Quotations (Dodd, 1967). Many quotes are entertaining and witty, providing a less stodgy and formal resource. However, the scholarship on thoughtful topics is of fine quality. Unfortunately, there are no word or source indexes, and no cross references in the subject index, which is simply a list of the topics covered in the body of the work. An interesting discussion in the opening "Note to the Reader" suggests ways to eliminate the original sexism of a quotation without changing the intent and still give proper credit to the originator for the thought. Although not without omissions, this should be given consideration by any library wanting full access to a wealth of quotations not available elsewhere. --Claudia Moore, W. T.
