Review:
According to this crisply photographed book, decorating with natural elements is more than a style: it's a way of life. Unlike superficial trends and the modern thirst for constant change that so many get caught up in, natural decorating is timeless, simple, and practical. The authors approach each category--walls, floors, windows and doors, fittings and furnishings, and accessories--with sound ideas on using wood, wicker, paper, shells, fibers, stone, and eco-friendly fabrics and paints to create attractive, comfortable interiors. The text combines general suggestions with specific how-tos for simple paint and fabric treatments, as well as papermaking and plaster casting, among others. The result is a soothing, low-key style that is relatively easy to achieve, fairly inexpensive, and quite appealing to live with. --Amy Handy
