Grade 3-6?In an easy-to-read text in large print, Parker offers a simple explanation of the function of blood in the body. The subject matter is divided into 14 double-page spreads, all of which have at least 5 illustrations in lavish color. The paragraphs that accompany each diagram and photograph add to or elaborate on the information in the main text. The diagrams are well labeled and clear even though the overall impression is a cluttered, busy page. The children in the pictures wear sweatshirts with diagrams of related body parts superimposed on them. This book is visually more exciting and has more extraneous material than Darlene R. Stille's more direct The Circulatory System (Children's Press, 1997). Carol Ballard's The Heart and Circulatory System (Raintree/Steck-Vaughn, 1997) is more comprehensive but is on a higher reading level.?Martha Gordon, formerly at South Salem Library, NY
