Very Good. See scans and description. New York: Frederick Warne, 1906. First U.S. Edition, later state, with "12 E. 33rd Street" as publisher's address on title page. [CF1, illustrations]. 24mo, 81 pp. Gray/brown cloth, silver imprint, cover illustration, illustrated endpapers. Very Good. Front hinge just starting to get tender, but still sturdy. Corners and spine ends bumped, causing roughening at spine ends (see scans). Small amount of a child's light pencil scribble on ffep and two internal pages. Scarce printing of the first American edition - which is itself apparently rarer than the UK first - of Beatrix Potter's memorable The Tale of Mr. Jeremy Fisher, in which Mr. Jeremy, a bullfrog, narrowly escapes becoming dinner for a fish - while fishing himself. No more deeply meaningful than that, but do we want it to be ? Full of some of Potter's most beautiful full-color illustrations, magical and nostalgic; perhaps exceeding those in her other works, even, yes, The Tale of Peter Rabbit. See scans. L48

About the Author:
Beatrix Potter is one of the world's best-loved children's authors of all time. From her first book, The Tale of Peter Rabbit (1902) she went on to create a series of stories based around animal characters including Mrs Tiggy-winkle, Mr Jeremy Fisher and Tom Kitten. Her humorous, lively tales and beautiful illustrations have become a natural part of childhood.A source of inspiration was the Lake District where she lived for the last thirty years of her life as a farmer and conservationist.

Book Description Hardcover. Condition: New. 15 X 11 CM- " Beatrix Potter (illustrator). Reprint 1986.- "Once upon a time, there was a frog called Mr. Jeremy Fisher; he lived in a little damp house amongst the buttercups at the edge of a pond." 'The Tale of Mr. Jeremy Fisher', like Peter Rabbit, began life as an illustrated letter to a young child. It was written when Beatrix Potter was on holiday in Scotland where her father and his friends enjoyed fishing expeditions. Mr. Jeremy has a day full of the worst fisherman's mishaps when he sets out to catch minnows for his dinner. Now, with all the original text in a fully illustrated Worthington Press edition, Beatrix Potter's animal stories have been a joy to generations of young readers. Her warm, playful illustrations in soft colors invite children into the world of words and flights of fancy. Once there, she gently and humorously guides readers along the path of righteousness, leaving just enough room for children to wonder if that incorrigible Peter will be back in McGregor's garden tomorrow. Helen Beatrix Potter (1866 - 1943) was an English writer, illustrator, natural scientist, and conservationist best known for her children's books featuring animals, her first and perhaps most famous being The Tale of Peter Rabbit. In all, Potter wrote thirty books; the best known being her twenty-three children's tales. Frederick Warne & Co was founded in 1865 by London bookseller and publisher, Frederick Warne.
