The series will be completed with Headstart 2 for Ordinary Level students or Headstart 3 for Higher Level students. These texts will have particular emphasis on exam technique to enable students to consider and answer questions. Totally unique extracts and materials in Headstart 1 that have not been seen before in any second level or primary textbook - were chosen to encourage young teenagers to communicate about matters that interest them. There is an emphasis on media studies as it accounts for 60 marks in the Junior Certificate exam. There is a light, humorous feel to the book, appealing to students of this age group. Activities vary from those requiring short, succinct answers to those demanding developed responses. Students are regularly encouraged to evaluate themselves throughout the course. Provides plenty of practice in reading, writing, punctuation and vocabulary-building. There are Postscripts and Checklists at the end of each chapter, enabling students and teachers to monitor learning outcomes as the year progresses.
