“Lift Up My Soul: Taking Flight on the Winds of Faith” is a five session Bible study for adults that explores ways we can soar to new heights with God. The adult Bible study book is designed to supplement and integrate with the VBS program for 2007.  Each session introduces different people in the Story of our faith and shows how we can live exuberantly by learning from their experiences. The theme is drawn from the key Bible verse,  Psalm 143:8b "Teach me the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul." .The sessions are:

Session One - Abraham and Sarah: Taking Flight by Following Genesis 12-21 (various stories),

Session Two - Joseph: Taking Flight by Trusting, Genesis 37-45 (various stories),

Session Three - Mary and Martha: Taking Flight by Listening  Luke 10:38-42

Session Four - Zacchaeus: Taking Flight by Repenting  Luke 19:1-10

Session Five - Peter: Taking Flight by Serving  John 21:1-19,

About the Author:
James Hawkins is a pastor, currently serving in Smyrna, Delaware. A graduate of Northwestern University, Jim’s first career was in journalism. After a short and exciting stint as a reporter for a daily newspaper in Southern California, he responded to God’s calling him to pastoral ministry, a different kind of news business. He graduated from Wesley Theological Seminary and has served as a pastor in the Peninsula-Delaware Conference. In addition to his pastoral duties, Jim writes for FaithLink and is the author of Family: Finding Who We Are and How We Belong, a volume in the 20/30 Series for Young Adults. Jim is married to Kathleen, who is the executive director of The United Methodist Foundation in the Eastern Pennsylvania and Peninsula-Delaware conferences. In his free time, Jim loves music (particularly singing), cooking, eating Kathleen’s much better cooking, and traveling.
