IN describing the churches of Cambridgeshire and the Isle Of Ely I have endeavoured, as far as possible, to preserve a uniform plan, following the mention Of the various parts Of the church by such of its characteristics and adjuncts as I deemed material. It will doubtless be occasion ally found that from one cause or another some object Of interest has been overlooked, or others have in process Of time been in some way altered, if not destroyed. In the latter case it may not be altogether disadvantageous _to learn something of things 'as they were.' It is too much to hope that errors of description are altogether absent; I can only trust that few Of any importance will be found.
