About the Author:
John Magel's family has been involved in the book world for many years. John Sr., his father, was working for Grossett and Dunlap when he met his mother, Virginia, a book buyer in Greenwich, Connecticut where John was born. John's grandfather, Frank, was known as one of the 'remainder kings' in the 1920's, ran Putnam Bookstores, became president of the American Booksellers Association, and was vice president for the Book of the Month Club, as did another of his sons, Frank, who was assistant vice president with the BOMC. Other family members were also writers and bookstore owners.
During his college years he worked in a bookstore in New England, The Book Cellar, and later as VP and business manager for the Stephen Greene Press in the 1970's. John picked up on books and published several small books including such titles as The Golden Oak, Dr. Moggle's Alphabet Challenge, The True Story of Greenwich Castle, and The Wordlanders.

John spent the majority of his career in information technology. He is also an artist who enjoys creating detailed pen and ink seascapes and nature scenes.

One Person in a Thousand is his most potent, thought-provoking book. Although it is a diminutive book, it took several years to make it a usable resource, especially since John was initially collecting notes on scrap paper with no plan on the horizon. John, through this process of collecting ideas, came to realize that he had something that may help others on their path toward better living and truly becoming that one person in a thousand.
