Gr 4-9-Emphasizing the universality of this beloved sport, Sullivan covers the basic rules, positions, skills, strategies, Olympic and World Cup competitions, and history of the sport in the U.S. The author addresses both beginners and intermediate players in explaining the game. When mentioning equipment, he gives details down to the number of panels in a typical soccer ball and the reason for them, while other soccer books often show only a picture of a uniform and cleats. Another strong point is that the book is up to date through the year 2000, and there is information about women players and photos of college players from Duke, St. Louis University, UCLA, and the University of Oklahoma, to name a few. The only drawback is that the presentation lacks the color and pizzazz of Gary Lineker's Soccer and Hugh Hornby's Soccer (both DK, 2000). For utilitarian purposes, this title will fill the bill.-Blair Christolon, Prince William Public Library System, Manassas, VA
