As Dellin continues the story in Montana Blue (2005), champion bull rider Chase Lomax is looking for his next championship buckle on the rodeo circuit when he meets Elle Hawthorne, a bullfighter who both attracts and challenges him. He criticizes her when she is doing her job protecting him from the bulls he rides; then, when Chase is severely injured, Elle blames herself. Shaken, they each give up on rodeo, at least temporarily, even though the rodeo was the one place where both escaped the pain of their personal lives. Chase has an added complication--his son, Shane, a former drug addict who has come to live with him. Chase was hardly around when Shane was growing up; now Chase is unsure of himself as a parent. He looks to Elle for guidance, but she must overcome her past before she can help others or determine if she has a future in the rodeo. Dellin makes rodeo athletes come alive in this modern-day western romance. Patty Engelmann
