This collection of newspaper articles provides insights into domestic life before and during the booms of the 1950s and 1960s; in the early 1900s it was the etiquette of how to leave your card, and the servant problem in the 1920's. 1924 saw the new public executioner's wife telling the "Daily Express" about her husband's cosy times at home. In October 1948, 46 per cent of British homes had no bath, but by the 1960's it was all laboursaving devices and Scandinavian furniture. Decorating the home emerges as a consuming passion, and corsetry, slimming and lifeless skin are perennial worries.
