Donoghue's Investment Tips for Retirement Savings - Softcover

Both these books aim to guide readers to a secure retirement. Both assert that retirement planning is not only for the soon-to-be-retired, that one must take an active role, avoid taxes, andsince social security and private pensions may not be relied onthat savings should start early. How best to invest these savings is the major focus of these books: they cover stocks, mutual funds, IRAs, Keoghs, and other IRS code sections. The authors explain the many different choices in payout plans (e.g., lump sum, annuity). Donoghue excels in explaining anticipated social security income, including a formula for early retirement; health insurance information for those over 65; and whether to work past 65. However, his "investment 101" discussion too often flacks for his own organization's materials and advice. Morse is more complete: he guides the reader through an examination of his or her net worth, handling budgets, life insuranceespecially what to avoiddisability insurance, home ownership benefits, and drawing up a will. Both authors take into account the Tax Reform Act of 1986 and repeatedly advise the reader to seek expert professional advice from lawyers, tax accountants, and bankers.
